Meet Our Team
DR. NEWELL KITCHEN, Owner
Dr. Newell R. Kitchen is a soil scientist and agronomist with decades of experience in agricultural productivity, precision agriculture, soil management, and environmental stewardship. He recently retired from the USDA Agricultural Research Service and continues as an Adjunct Professor at the University of Missouri. He is also the owner of Agronomic, Geologic, and Environmental Services (AGES) LLC.
Dr. Kitchen holds an M.S. in Agronomy from the University of Missouri and a Ph.D. in Crop and Soil Sciences from Colorado State University. His research has advanced the use of spatial soil and crop data to improve site-specific management, including management-zone development, variable-rate nutrient application, soil and landscape sensing, and evaluation of agricultural impacts on water quality.
With more than 150 peer-reviewed publications, leadership as President of the American Society of Agronomy, and recognition as a Fellow of both the American Society of Agronomy and the Soil Science Society of America, Dr. Kitchen brings nationally recognized expertise to AGES.
His experience enables AGES to translate rigorous scientific research into practical, site-specific solutions for producers, researchers, businesses, and public agencies.
SUZANNE KITCHEN, CFO
Suzanne Barner Kitchen serves as Chief Financial Officer for Agronomic, Geologic, and Environmental Services (AGES), where she oversees the company’s financial management, accounting, and administrative operations.
Mrs. Kitchen's background in music—including master’s degrees in Choral Conducting and Piano Performance, extensive experience as a conductor, pianist, teacher, and accompanist, and years of managing her own private music studio—has developed the organization, precision, and attention to detail that she brings to her work at AGES.
While her professional career began in music, Suzanne now applies those same skills to managing the financial side of a growing consulting business, ensuring that AGES maintains accurate records, sound financial practices, and efficient operations. Her combination of analytical attention to detail and years of experience managing complex musical and organizational responsibilities makes her an integral part of the AGES team.
DR. G. MAC BEAN,
AGES Associate Scientist
Dr. G. Mac Bean combines a passion for agriculture with expertise in soil science, soil health, agronomy, and geospatial technologies. He earned his Ph.D. in Soil Science from the University of Missouri–Columbia and has professional training in Geographic Information Systems (GIS) and unmanned aerial systems (UAS). His experience spans soil-health research, precision agriculture, and commercial crop production, with a focus on understanding biological and physical soil properties and applying that knowledge to practical crop and nutrient-management decisions.
As an AGES Associate Scientist, Mac works alongside growers, researchers, and industry partners on agricultural research and applied projects. He combines field-based observations with data analysis and spatial technologies to better understand the relationships among soil properties, management practices, and crop production—and to turn complex research into practical solutions that create value on the farm.
Dr. Bean also serves on the team for the SHAPE (Probing Our Country’s Soil Health) project, a national effort to expand understanding of soil health and provide farmers with meaningful benchmarks for evaluating and improving their soils. Through this work, he contributes to the collection, analysis, and interpretation of soil-health data and the development of tools and reports that help farmers make informed soil-management decisions.
